WebNov 11, 2011 · The Armistice. The term "armistice" means a cessation of hostilities as a prelude to peace negotiations. In the context of the First World War 'the armistice' is generally referred to in context of the agreement between the Germans and the Allies to end the war on November 11, 1918. However it was by no means the only armistice of the war. WebLudendorff was the chief engineer behind the management of Germany's effort in World War I until his resignation in October 1918. After the war, Ludendorff became a prominent nationalist leader, and a promoter of the stab-in-the-back theory and convinced that the German Army had been betrayed by Marxists and Republicans in the Versailles Treaty.
